SK Brann (Sports Club Brann) was founded September 26th 1908 in Bergen, Norway by Christen K. Gran and Birger Gjestland. Legend says that when the founders wanted a name for the club, the term Brann, which is Norwegian for fire, was chosen instead of the alternative that was Fart, which is Norwegian for speed. We can imagine that a loud discussion must have taken place and that finally somebody must have said:  -We will never get a supporter club in New York if we call ourselves Fart. So that was how the club got the name Brann.

Sportsklubben Brann ble stiftet 26. September 1908 i Bergen av Christen K. Gran og Birger Gjestland. Legenden forteller at da grunnleggerene skulle finne et navn for klubben ble Brann foretrukket fremfor alternativet Fart, noe som på engelsk betyr promp. Vi kan tenke oss at en voldsom diskusjon må ha funnet sted og at en eller annen til slutt må ha sagt:  -Hør no her gutter! Vi kommer aldri til å få en supporterklubb i New York hvis vi kaller oss for Promp. Så slik gikk det til at navnet ble Brann.
